For a week, our partners spent nine hours a day in Central Park helping to install 7500 gates over 23 miles of sidewalks. 700 people working in teams of 8 worked just over 4 days to erect the PVC frames that support the pleated nylon fabric.
On Saturday February 12, 2005, cocoons that encased the fabric were removed allowing the specially woven nylon to unfurl. For 15 days only, over a million people from around the world came to New York to stroll under a canopy of saffron drapery.
Crews are now removing all traces of the artwork over the next two weeks. Everything will be recycled so that only memories and photos remain.
